Step into the story of Virden. Our Virden History Walk is a new self‑guided walking experience that will bring our town’s past to life right where it happened — along our streets, our buildings, and the places generations before us once stood.
This upcoming project will feature historic markers, plaques, QR‑code stops, photographs, and storytelling points that guide visitors through the events, people, and everyday moments that shaped our community. From the coal mining era to Route 66, from early settlement to local legends, each stop will offer a window into the lives that built Virden.
The History Walk is designed to be: • Educational — sharing true local stories in an engaging way • Accessible — free and open to all ages • Interactive — with digital content, photos, and expanded history • Beautiful — blending heritage with community pride • Community‑driven — created with local families, businesses, and volunteers
As part of our Roots & Renewal initiative, the History Walk will also support beautification efforts, encouraging residents and visitors to slow down, explore, and rediscover the charm of our historic square.
We’re working hard behind the scenes — researching, designing markers, gathering stories, and preparing each stop with care. The Virden History Walk is coming soon, and we can’t wait to share it with you.
Because our history deserves to be seen, remembered, and walked through together.
